IOC가 인정하는 현행 206개 국가올림픽위원회와 제휴하며
스위스 로잔에 본부를 둔 스포츠
국제기구. IOC의 승인을 받지 못했지만 대륙별 협회에서 승인을 받은 8개 국가올림픽위원회는 부위원이다. 현재 ANOC의 위원장은 로빈 E. 미첼이다.
ANOC는 1979년 6월
푸에르토리코의
산후안에서 개최된 제 9차 NOC 총회에서 설립되었다. 스포츠계의 유엔 총회라고 불리는 ANOC 총회는 적어도 2년에 1번씩은 개최된다.
