[[영국사]]에서 [[엘리자베스 1세]]의 재위기간을 [[엘리자베스 시대]](Elizabethan era), [[빅토리아 여왕]]의 재위기간을 [[빅토리아 시대]](Victorian era), [[에드워드 7세]]의 재위기간을 에드워드 시대(Edwardian era)라고 부르는 것과 같이 군주의 이름에서 따와 시대명을 부르는 관습에 따라 찰스 1세의 재위기간 또한 찰스 시대(Caroline era)라는 용어로 불린다. 여기서 Caroline은 [[찰스]]라는 이름의 형용사형이다.
