The hussars were originally formed as a light cavalry unit, but began donning heavier armor over the course of the 17th century. They were easily recognizable by the large wooden frames adorned with eagle, ostrich, and swan feathers on their backs, and enemies feared them for their famous charge.

Leveraging this ability and wielding a long lance, the hussars would charge through their foes at great speed, breaking the enemy line. The Winged Hussars proved to be the pivotal factor in many battles, but were disbanded in the 18th century when guns and artillery reduced the effectiveness of heavy cavalry on the battlefield.
