>흑사병으로도 알려진 선페스트로 14세기 유럽과 아시아 각지에서 수백만 명이 사망했습니다. 감염된 벼룩과 쥐만으로도 쉽게 확산되는 질병이지만, 1346년 카파 공성전 중에 사용된 생물학전의 병원균으로서 유럽에 처음 전파되었습니다. 한 제노바 상인의 이야기에 따르면, 공격 당시 황금 군단은 투석기를 사용해 페스트에 감염된 시체를 도시 안으로 던졌다고 합니다. 전투 후 이 도시에서 도망친 이탈리아 무역상들이 유럽으로 돌아가면서 의도치 않게 페스트 균이 퍼지게 되었습니다.

>The bubonic plague, also known as the Black Death, killed millions across Europe and Asia during the 14th century. Although the disease spread easily enough on its own through infected fleas and rats, it first reached Europe as an agent of biological warfare used during the 1346 Siege of Caffa.
